Thanksgiving: 3 Nonprofit Resources I'm Thankful For

During this season of thanksgiving, I am thinking of all my friends that have devoted their lives to serving others through their work in a nonprofit organization.   My experience is that most of you are working longer hours, carrying more stress and likely paid less than those doing similar roles in a for-profit business.  BUT the rewards are BIG!  That feeling of seeing a life changed – a difference made!  That has eternal rewards!  THANK YOU!!! 

Today, I offer you some encouragement and resources for your journey!  Here’s 3 of my favorites:

1. Boardsource - They have a rich set of one-page resources on common board matters including the Board-Staff Partnership and Roles & Responsibilities.  Their Recommended Governance Practices is a must have as well as their tools for assessing performance of the board and the executive leader. 
2. ECFA – The Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability. An accrediting agency that equips ministries for financial integrity.  They offer some of the best webinars on current legal and giving trends.  In addition, they have a huge knowledge library as well as other resources including my favorite Sample Financial Policies & Procedures document.  Some content requires membership to access.  But their newsletter is free – so sign up!
3. National Council of Nonprofits – This is a great place to get the current policy issues/updates. Their resources regarding nonprofit tax exemption and filing, costs of an annual audit are helpful.  And one of my favorite components of their site is the list of reports by State on the impact of nonprofits.  A good reminder that you are making a BIG difference!
